Maryland Food Bank - Western Branch operates a 12,000 square foot warehouse on McRand Ct. in Hagerstown, Maryland. Since 1987 we have served as a regional non-profit food warehouse from which other charitable organizations can obtain food and other items for their feeding programs. The Western Branch of the Maryland Food Bank partners with more than 25 member agencies in Allegany, Garrett, Washington & Frederick Counties in Maryland. This past year we distributed almost 1.5 million pounds through our partner agencies and touch the lives of over 2,000 families each month.
To qualify as an agency, an organization must be a registered 501(c)3 as determined by the IRS or a church. All agencies must document that over 50% of their clients are low income, and must provide food free of charge to the needy, ill, children or elderly. Agencies operate one of the following programs:
Emergency Food Pantries: Organizations that maintain a closet type pantry where needy families can get an emergency supply of food, provide a daytime or evening meal for the needy.
Residential Facilities: 24-hour care where food is prepared and served on-site.
Non-Residential and Soup Kitchens: Provide a daytime or evening meal for the needy.
If you would like information about becoming a member agency please contact Ed Kennedy at 301.733.4002 or to make a donation please feel free to contact Matt Thompson at 301.733.4002.
Calling All Who Would Like to Volunteer
The Maryland Food Bank - Western Branch has a regular volunteer program. We are asking individuals, families, civic groups and clubs (all ages) to come out to our warehouse location to repack food product and stock shelves. We have volunteer sessions available Monday - Friday from 8:00am - 4:00pm in 2-4 hour shifts. We ask that you provide 4-6 volunteers for each shift. This is a great company team project or an opportunity for students to fulfill their service learning hours. Contact Billie Bedregal or call 301.733.4002 to learn more.
