People Served Through the Maryland Food Bank
The Maryland Food Bank aims to serve all Marylanders living at or below the federal poverty level in our Service Area.
On the Eastern Shore:
- We feed more than 30,000 people per month through our network of more than 140 soup kitchens, food pantries, and emergency shelters.
- 37,400 people live at or below the federal poverty level in the eight Maryland counties served by the Maryland Food Bank—Eastern Shore.
- We feed an average of 950 children a month through our Youth Programs such as our Summer Feeding Program and After School Supper Feeding Programs.
- Another 54,000 people on the Eastern Shore are not officially living in poverty, but are teetering on the edge of it. Many of these people are employed or under-employed and must already choose between paying for food, rent, or medicine.
- Statewide, there are more than 466,000 Marylanders who are hungry.
