Fundraising Ideas

The Lawyers' Campaign Against Hunger was originally conceived 24 years ago in response to the 1986 American Bar Association resolution declaring a “fundamental right to be free from hunger.” At that time, a group of volunteer attorneys decided to do something about hunger in Maryland…and, the Lawyers’ Campaign Against Hunger was born in May of 1988.

Since 1988, the Campaign has raised over $2,876,000 which has benefited hunger–related initiatives and programs feeding thousands of individuals and families across Maryland. The Maryland Food Bank and the Capital Area Food Bank collectively serve the hungry across all corners of the State of Maryland and both benefit from the proceeds of the Lawyers’ Campaign Against Hunger.

Our Campaign Executive Committee, the working committee whose efforts are behind the results, is responsible for recruiting the Campaign Sponsors, Honorary Committee and Campaign Advocates. Personalized letters are mailed to all attorneys registered in Maryland and donors are listed in a two-page ad in The Daily Record at the conclusion of the campaign.

*Funds raised in Prince George’s and Montgomery Counties will benefit the Capital Area Food Bank (
www.capitalareafoodbank.org), which services these areas.
