Donate MoneyDonate FoodDonate TimeDonate Time

A recent snapshot of the type of food in our warehouse has been very telling.  The amount of purchased food has hovered between 40 to 60 percent of our inventory.  When the Maryland Food Bank has to purchase food because we have not received enough donated product, we have to pass that cost onto our network partners.

Ordinarily, food banks purchase food to supplement the donated product. Our children’s programs often require items with specific nutrition guidelines. These are items that we do not receive in enough quantity from community food drives and food industry donations.  However, for the past two years, the Maryland Food Bank has found that donated product does not stay on our shelves for very long.

The need is up and we are distributing more food than we ever have before.  Therefore, we need to purchase food to supplement the growing need.
